Many llamas need to have the toenails trimed just like humans. It depends on each llama, how fast their nails grow and what type of surface they walk on. Because of their soft and sturdy feet a llama makes an ideal pack animal in State parks because they do not damage the gound like an animal with a hoof.
The bottom of the foot feels like a hard leather pad. It is similar to the pad you see on the bottom of a dogs foot. Llamas do not have a hoof like a horse or cow.
| This is Charlies front left foot, notice that he has two toenails on his foot. |
The foot on the ( -----> ) Right, is Charlies back foot. This shows the heal and side of his foot.
| The foot to the ( <---- ) Left, is Pedro. You are looking at his foot from the front. His toenails show clearly. |
